The Feather River Water Plan is the Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) Plan for the Upper Feather River Region – which is defined as all parts of the Feather River watershed spreading above Lake Oroville to the crest of the Sierra and beyond.  The Upper Feather River watershed spans an area of 2.3 million acres, which is larger than some entire states.

The Feather River Water Plan addresses relatively recent state requirements and incentives for integrated, regional water planning.  The Water Plan stands upon the history of collaborative planning in the Feather River region, particularly the innovation and success of the Feather River Coordinated Resource Management group, as well as the more recent Plumas Watershed Forum and the relationship between the Feather River watershed and the California State Water Project and regional investment by downstream beneficiaries.

The Feather River Water Plan was formally adopted by the agencies with primary authority for land and water management in the Feather River region:

Plumas County Flood Control & Water Conservation District

In 2007, the Upper Feather IRWM program was awarded one of the first in a series of state grants for IRWM implementation projects which were approved by California voters in 2002 and 2006.  The local project sponsors include the Feather River Coordinated Resource Management Group, Plumas National Forest, Feather River Land Trust, Sierra Valley Groundwater Management District, Quincy Community Services District, and U.C. Davis.
